CCM PhD Position Marie-Curie

Position: PhD researcher on Control and Reinforcement Learning in Stochastic Processes

Supported and co-funded by the European Commission through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme, and more than 40 other partners, the University of Deusto has been awarded highly competitive funding for a second doctoral COFUND Project: the 6i-DIRS. At CCM – Chair of Computational Mathematics we are looking for recruiting outstanding international ESRs for high excellent research environment:

Within Call 2020 there is a choice of 19 selected topics for recruitment. From all candidates applying to these topics, 10 researchers will be recruited in this first call. One of these topics is Control and Reinforcement Learning in Stochastic Processes: We aim to integrate a PhD candidate to carry out mathematical and computational research in the field of recommendation systems by control.

A recommendation system is an algorithm capable of ordering a set of elements and selecting the first ones to maximize a function that represents the valuation of users. It can be interpreted as a dynamic control system, where the recommendations play the role of controls. In this way, different strategies can be designed to maximize the user experience, leading to an innovative approach to this challenging topic. The research proposal aims to employ the classical paradigm of Mathematical “modelling + analysis+ simulation + control “to address these issues, in combination with the recently developed “data driven” techniques. The main challenge consists in modelling these processes through a combination of classical mathematical tools and data exploration.
