Michoacan University of Saint Nicholas of Hidalgo\nAbstract. Dark matter remains one of the most profound mysteries in modern physics and cosmology. In this colloquium, I will introduce the concept of dark matter by first revisiting what we mean by matter and how we know that the visible Universe does not tell the whole story. I will then outline the role of gravity—from Newtonian gravity to Einstein’s theory of General Relativity—as the primary tool through which the existence of dark matter is inferred. Finally, I will discuss how the Vera C.
