Hi, there!<\/p>\n

I’m\u00a0Enrique<\/a>, a math passionate. My unforgettable and pushful parents (Mar\u00eda Pilar and Gonzalo) bringed me to life (1961) in Eibar\u00a0“City of Science”<\/a>,\u00a0a magical land from Basque Country (Euskadi) in the north of Spain, where kind and work people live and talk\u00a0Euskera<\/a>,\u00a0a beautiful but very antique minority language still endangered.<\/p>\n

I’m a mathematician but\u00a0more than a profession<\/a>\u00a0I’m a strong believer\u00a0Mathematics as the essence of all around us:\u00a0<\/i>what we do, what we think or even feel…is part of Nature, Arts, Medicine, Social and Biological Sciences, Aeronautics, Earth and Universe. Don’t you think? Anything you can imagine lies in Math and that’s why I’ve spent all my life looking for that special meaning, doing\u00a0Research<\/a>\u00a0specially in\u00a0Partial Differential Equations (PDE), Numerical Analysis, Control Theory,Optimal Design, Data Sciences and Industrial Transfer.<\/p>\n

I started my studies in 1984, when I got my Bachelor degree in Mathematics from UPV\/EHU – University of the Basque Country. Then in 1985 I got my DEA\/Master in Numerical Analysis from Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris – France. And after that, I got my two dual PhDs in Mathematics, from UPV\/EHU – University of the Basque Country, Spain (1987) and Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris – France (1988). Since then I certainly feel grateful and recognized for the relatively high impact on my work (h-index = 41<\/a>) and for all the young fellows I supervised and the many colleagues I had the opportunity to collaborate with!<\/p>\n

Currently I lead from Germany the\u00a0Chair for Dynamics, Control, Machine Learning and Numerics<\/a>\u00a0– Alexander von Humboldt Professorship at FAU – Friedrich Alexander Universit\u00e4t, Erlangen – N\u00fcrnberg (2019 – current). Since 2016 I’ve been doing as Distinguished Senior Researcher and\u00a0Director<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0DeustoCCM<\/a>, the Chair of Computational Mathematics at Deusto Foundation\/University of Deusto, Bilbao, Basque Country – Spain (2016 – current) and since 2001 as\u00a0Professor in Applied Mathematics<\/a>\u00a0of the UAM -Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid – Spain (2001 – current).<\/p>\n

I confess myself as a mathematician passionate and a humanistic\u00a0lover:\u00a0Mathematics as a Science<\/a>\u00a0finds answers in a very deep, highest with an almost religious level, and at the same time is an\u00a0intellectual and humanistic activity<\/a>\u00a0in a pretty high level that touches Arts and hardest Technology alike. I could not imagine that “If you like Math, why don’t you do it,\u00a0then?” my brother Alberto asked me once could be the start of the man I am today, all awards and distinctions I got like,\u00a0Txopitea eta Pakea<\/a>,\u00a0Alexander Von Humboldt Professorship<\/a>,\u00a0Ambassador of Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg<\/a>,\u00a0Julio Rey Pastor Spanish National Prize<\/a>, and more…wow! I really feel honored for all of them! Thank you very much!

Soy Enrique<\/a>, un apasionado de las matem\u00e1ticas. Mis inolvidables e inscansables padres (Mar\u00eda Pilar y Gonzalo) me dieron la vida (1961) en Eibar \u201cCiudad de las Ciencias\u201d<\/a>, una tierra m\u00e1gica del Pa\u00eds Vasco (Euskadi) en el norte de Espa\u00f1a, donde vive gente amable que habla euskera, un idioma muy antiguo y hermoso pero minoritario en peligro de desaparecer.<\/p>\n

Soy matem\u00e1tico pero m\u00e1s que una profesi\u00f3n<\/a> creo firmemente que la Matem\u00e1ticas es la esencia de todo lo que nos rodea<\/em>: lo que hacemos, lo que pensamos o incluso sentimos…es parte de la Naturaleza, las Artes, la Medicina, las Ciencias Sociales y Biol\u00f3gicas, la Aeron\u00e1utica, la Tierra y el Universo \u00bfNo te parece? Todo lo que puedas imaginar est\u00e1 en las Matem\u00e1ticas y es por eso he pasado toda mi vida buscando ese significado especial, haciendo investigaci\u00f3n<\/a> especialmente en Ecuaciones Diferenciales Parciales (PDE), An\u00e1lisis Num\u00e9rico, Teor\u00eda de Control, Dise\u00f1o \u00d3ptimo, Ciencias de Datos y Transferencia Industrial.<\/p>\n

Inici\u00e9 mis estudios en 1984, cuando obtuve la Licenciatura en Matem\u00e1ticas por la UPV\/EHU – Universidad del Pa\u00eds Vasco. Luego, en 1985 obtuve mi DEA\/Maestr\u00eda en An\u00e1lisis Num\u00e9rico de la Universidad Pierre et Marie Curie, Par\u00eds – Francia. Y despu\u00e9s de eso, obtuve mis dos doctorados duales en Matem\u00e1ticas, de la UPV \/ EHU – Universidad del Pa\u00eds Vasco, Espa\u00f1a (1987) y la Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie, Par\u00eds – Francia (1988). Desde entonces \u00a1me siento ciertamente agradecido y reconocido por el impacto relativamente alto en mi trabajo (\u00edndice h = 41<\/a>) y por todos los j\u00f3venes becarios que he supervisado y todos colegas con los que he tenido oportunidad de colaborar!<\/p>\n

Actualmente dirijo desde Alemania la C\u00e1tedra de An\u00e1lisis Aplicado<\/a> – C\u00e1tedra Alexander von Humboldt en la Universidad FAU – Friedrich Alexander Universit\u00e4t, Erlangen – N\u00fcrnberg (2019 – actualidad). Desde 2016 me desempe\u00f1o como Investigador Titular Distinguido y Director<\/a> de la C\u00e1tedra de Matem\u00e1tica Computacional, Fundaci\u00f3n Deusto\/Universidad de Deusto, Bilbao, Pa\u00eds Vasco – Espa\u00f1a (2016 – actualidad) y desde 2001 como Catedr\u00e1tico de Matem\u00e1tica Aplicada de la UAM<\/a> -Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Madrid – Espa\u00f1a (2001 – actualidad).<\/p>\n

Me autoconfieso un matem\u00e1tico apasionado y a la vez un amante humanista: la Matem\u00e1tica como Ciencia<\/a> encuentra respuestas en el m\u00e1s alto y profundo nivel casi religioso y al mismo tiempo es una actividad intelectual y humanista<\/a> en un alt\u00edsimo nivel que roza las Artes y la m\u00e1s complicada Tecnolog\u00eda por igual. C\u00f3mo podr\u00eda imagina que aqu\u00e9l “\u00bfSi te gustan las Matem\u00e1ticas, por qu\u00e9 no lo haces entonces?” que mi hermano me dijo una vez pudiese ser el comienzo del hombre que soy hoy, todos los premios y distinciones que he obtenido, como Txopitea eta Pakea<\/a>, la C\u00e1tedra Alexander von Humboldt<\/a>, Embajador de la FAU<\/a> Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg, el Premio Nacional de Espa\u00f1a Julio Rey Pastor<\/a> y m\u00e1s…\u00a1Guau, realmente me siento honrado por todos ellos. \nEnrique naiz<\/span><\/a>, matematika zale sutsua. Mar\u00eda Pilar eta Gonzalo guraso ahaztezin eta kementsuek ekarri ninduten mundura (1961), Eibarren, \u00a0<\/span>Eibarren, “Zientziaren Hirian”<\/span><\/a>, Euskal Herriko lur magiko batean, Espainiako iparraldean. Herritar atseginak eta langileak bizi dira bertan eta euskara hitz egiten dute, hizkuntza ederra, oso antzinakoa, baina gutxitua eta oraindik arriskuan dagoena.<\/p>\n

Matematikaria naiz, baina\u00a0lanbidea baino gehiago<\/span><\/a>, zinez uste dut Matematika dela gure inguruko guztiaren funtsa: egiten dugunarena, pentsatzen dugunarena edo sentitzen dugunarena… Naturaren zati da, Artearena, Medikuntzarena, Gizarte eta Biologia Zientziena, Aeronautikarena, Lurrarena eta Unibertsoarena. Ez al duzu uste? Irudika dezakezun guztia Matematikaren gainean eraikitzen da eta horregatik eman dut bizitza osoa esanahi berezi horren bila, Ikerketan<\/span><\/a>, bereziki esparru hauetan: ekuazio diferentzia partzialak (PDE), zenbakizko analisia, kontrol teoria, diseinu optimoa, datuen zientziak eta industria transferentzia.<\/p>\n

1984an eskuratu nuen Matematikako lizentziatura Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatean (UPV-EHUn). Ondoren, 1985ean, Zenbakizko Analisiko Ikasketa Aurreratuen Diploma\/Masterra eskuratu nuen, Pariseko (Frantzia) Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie unibertsitatean. Eta jarraian, Matematikako doktorego bikoitza lortu nuen, EHU-Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatean (1987) eta Pariseko (Frantzia) Universit\u00e9 Pierre et Marie Curie unibertsitatean (1988). Orduz geroztik, aitortua sentitzen naiz eta esker ona adierazi beharrean nago nire lanak inpaktu nahiko handia duelako (h-index = 41<\/span><\/a>), hainbat gaztek lan egin dutelako nire ardurapean eta jakitun askorekin lankidetzan aritzeko aukera izan dudalako.<\/p>\n

Gaur egun, Alemanian ari naiz lanean, Analisi Aplikatuko<\/span><\/a> – Alexander von Humboldt katedraren buru, FAU-Friedrich Alexander Universit\u00e4t unibertsitatean, Erlangen-N\u00fcrnbergen (2019tik gaur egunera arte). 2016. urteaz geroztik, ikertzaile seniorra eta Matematika Konputazionaleko Katedraren<\/span><\/a> zuzendaria<\/span><\/a> naiz Deustu Fundazioan, Bilbon, Euskal Herrian (2016tik gaur egunera arte) eta 2001. urteaz geroztik, \u00a0<\/span>Matematika Aplikatuko katedraduna<\/span><\/a>, Madrilgo Unibertsitate Autonomoan, Espainian (2001etik gaur egunera arte).<\/p>\n

Matematikari sutsua eta humanismoaren zalea naizela aitortzen dut: Matematikak, Zientzia<\/span><\/a> gisa, oso maila sakonetan eta gorenetan aurkitzen ditu erantzunak, ia maila erlijiosoan, eta aldi berean, \u00a0<\/span>jarduera intelektuala eta humanista<\/span><\/a> da, neurri handi batean, Arteei eta Teknologia gogorrenari lotuta. Ez nuen pentsatuko anaia Albertok behin egin zidan galdera, “Matematika gustatzen bazaizu, zergatik ez duzu hori egiten?”, gaur egun naizenaren abiapuntua izango zenik, jaso ditudan sari eta aipamen guztien hasiera, horien artean, Txopitea eta Pakea<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Alexander Von Humbolt katedra<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg-eko Friedrich-Alexander-Universit\u00e4t unibertsitateko enbaxadorea<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Espainiako Julio Rey Pastor sari nazionala<\/span><\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0eta abar… uau!
