Every year the city of Éibar awards the “Txopitea eta Pakea” award to an outstanding personality born in the city (“eibarrés”) and this year Enrique Zuazua has awarded by his wide scientific contribution all around the world in the world of Mathematics and beyond.
Grateful to receive the award, Enrique Zuazua highlighted that it is a “recognition of all the scientists from Éibar and to all who studies and creates in the most diverse disciplines” and assures that it would be impossible to quote all the people, whom he describes as “giants” like Newton would say, who “have taught me, helped and supported me since childhood in Éibar.”
The “Txopitea eta Pakea” prize shape is a famous sculpture inspired on the artist Jorge Oteiza born in Éibar and one of the most important basque artist on the Spanish 20th century who gave this as a gift to his friend Daniel Txopitea, another outstanding basque artist until these days.
