“Mathematics: passion and profession”, Enrique Zuazua will tell us:

When I was little I liked Mathematics, playing with numbers.

At the time of choosing the University career there were other related options such as Engineering, with a significant mathematical content, enjoying more social prestige and, without any doubt, at that time, with a wider range of job opportunities. There was also Economy, with a more direct link with the productive sector and the world of finances, with so much tradition in Basque Country.

But I chose Mathematics, following the inner impulsion of my own vocation. Many did the same thing before, and continue to do so today.

In this talk I will briefly describe, avoiding unnecessary technicalities, how Mathematics, besides being, certainly, passion, the constitute also a trail of a professional future that knows no limits.
